Earthwatch Tiny Forest Project

28th November 2022

We are very excited to be part of an Earthwatch Tiny Forest project. A few months ago our school was selected by Cambridgeshire County Council along with a couple of other schools in Cambridgeshire and we have been in discussions with the Earthwatch Team about the planting of a 'Tiny Forest' in the school grounds. There has been lots of preparation including the design of the 'tiny forest', soil sampling and land preparation. This project is being funded by the Forestry Commission under the Local Authority Treescape Fund to provide the benefits of woodland right into the heart of our cities and urban spaces: connecting people with nature, helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change, as well as providing nature-rich habitat to support urban wildlife.

You can find out more about Earthwatch Europe and the Tiny Forest Project through their website: Earthwatch -  earthwatch.org.uk/  Tiny Forest - earthwatch.org.uk/get-involved/tiny-forest

All of the children will be involved in either the planting of approx 600 trees and shrubs or laying down the mulch covering during the day on Monday 28th November. Appropriate clothing and footwear (coat and wellies) will be needed for ALL children so they can participate.

The Earthwatch Team would like to be able to take photographs during the day of the planting and they require parental permission to do this. The permission that school holds does not apply.  If you are happy for your child to be photographed, please complete the google form below by Monday 21st November. These will then be sent to Earthwatch in advance of the event; consents after this date cannot be accepted.

We hope the children and staff will enjoy being involved on planting day and enjoy the benefits of the Tiny Forest in years to come.
