KS2 trip to Cadbury World

13th November 2017

The children are already enjoying our ‘chocolate’ topic this term. We will be teaching many exciting and interesting things through the topic, including:

  • History - The history of chocolate and studying the Mayan civilisation

  • Geography - Where chocolate comes from and learning more about Central America and finding out how chocolate is produced from bean to bar.

  • Design Technology – designing and making their own chocolate bars and exploring package designs and creating their own. Designing and making their own candy bar machine.

  • All our literacy will also be linked to this theme. Some classes studying Roald Dahl’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. The children will be writing explanation texts about the bean to bar story. They will also be working on persuasive writing to design their own advert and also creating their own characters and rooms to continue the a persuasive letter to Mr Wonka to persuade him to make the chocolate bar / candy that they have created.

To enrich this topic we would like to take the children to ‘Cadbury World’, in Birmingham on:

  • Wednesday 8th November for ALL Yr 5/6 children,

  • Monday 13th November for ALL Yr 3/4 children.

“With 23 years’ experience and more than 2,000 school groups attending each year, Cadbury World has become a valuable educational resource for students of all ages. Cadbury World provides a wealth of information designed specifically for learners at Key Stages 1 and 2.”

We would propose to leave by coach at approx. 9.00 am from school, arriving there about 11 am and leaving at 3pm to return back to school hopefully by 5pm. The children would need a packed lunch and may bring up to £5.00 in a named envelope to buy gifts from their shop. The visit would also include an hour’s educational talk on the theme of Mayan people, which will supplement our History and Geography curriculum.

We appreciate this trip is an expensive one but the last group of children we took had a fantastic time, we believe it is worth the money for the experience which the children receive. The total cost £25.00 per pupil, this will include coach travel to and from Birmingham, insurance, entry into Cadbury World and the educational talk, not forgetting several treats of the chocolate variety.

We realise that this is quite a costly trip but it is the only trip we are doing out this year (apart from Year 4 mini Olympics in June) and feel that is a fantastically worthwhile opportunity for the children and one we know, they do not forget!

We are asking for the payment by Monday 16th October. If we do not have sufficient interest to make the trip worthwhile, we will let you know after half term (Wednesday 18th October) and in that instance, all monies would be returned. So please pay as soon as possible.
