Spring Term 2017

Kestrels Class - Year 3 & 4

Our literacy theme is poetry.  We have composed 2 poems using a haiku for each verse.  Each verse was composed by a group and then the poem put together.

We worked on converting a well known story into a narrative poem. This is a poem which tells a story, whilst maintaining a rhyming scheme of rhyming couplets,  i.e. 2 lines which are consecutive and rhyme
A day at the seaside

I’ve seen a big wave come in and it splashed me,
I’ve heard a sea gull squawking so loud,
I’ve seen fossils in rocks,
I’ve tasted yummy candy floss melting in my mouth,
I’ve tasted delicious vanilla ice cream,
But I wish I could hear a mermaid singing,
When she’s brushing her golden hair.

Summer 2016

Children in Hummingbirds class have based their English work around El Caminante in the last few weeks.  Preparation work involving immersion in different sorts of texts, practicing different grammatical techniques and use of language features and finally culminating in a Big Write piece.  Here are two examples of the finished products.  They show how children are using and applying the writing techniques they have learnt and also where they are redrafting and reshaping work.  We thought you would like to see this work in progress.
