Learning to read is one of the most important things your child will learn at school, everything else around their learning depends upon it. We want your child to love reading and to want to read for themselves as quickly as possible. Our links with our pre-school and the wider community enable us to engage children early and provide them with a lifelong skill. We have reading environments both within the school building and its grounds. Each classroom has a dedicated reading area with a range of books available to all children. Our Library is engaging and contains a variety of reading materials to interest all children at their many different stages of the reading journey. The Lottery funded Outdoor Library also encourages our children to free read in their leisure time. We promote the love of books and the skills of being a wordsmith in everything we do.
Our reading mascot “ERIC” (Everyone Reading in Class) was designed by the children. Everyday all Key stage 2 classes take extra time to read for pleasure and immerse themselves in a book of their choice. This takes place in the afternoon to allow everyone to prepare themselves for the learning ahead.
