Romany Wood

Years 3, 5 and 6 have enjoyed a musical finale to the Spring term performing Romany Wood at Swavesey Village College.

We participated in an interactive concert and were treated to the orchestra playing several pieces composed by John Williams for 'Star Wars' and the skills of David Horden, trombone soloist.  Finally we performed Romany Wood.

David Carr, who wrote the narration and lyrics to Romany Wood, also attended and narrated throughout.  Matthew Gunn conducted the orchestra from Cambridgeshire Music and the 200 pupils who had worked on the songs for this performance.

Pupils had the opportunity to listen to and see how a live orchestra works and learned about the importance of the conductors role in leading the performance.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the day.  Here are some quotes from pupils in Year 5/6 about their Romany Wood live music experience....

'It was good to sing with other schools.'

'The orchestra was great.....I liked Star Wars.'

'I thought it would be a bit boring but afterwards I felt quite thrilled and I had a great time!'

'The orchestra was amazing.  It was a fun day and a great way to end the term.'

Many thanks to all the staff who attended on the day and supported the pupils.

Now we look forward to our next musical project in the summer term when we perform Benjamin Britten's 'Friday Afternoon' at the Finge on the Fen in Fenstanton.
