Alan Bullard Recorder Project

This year most of the key stage 2 pupils have had the opportunity to learn the recorder in class.  Three teachers attended a Recorder Festival at the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge and returned full of enthusiasm for Recorder playing.  The PTA bought us a class set of very good quality recorders and some software to help us learn how to play.  Mrs Snooke and Mrs Jones have taught their classes and Mrs Drysdale has taught the year 5/6 pupils.  We have made excellent progress and can now play 15 different pieces.  We have performed in assembly.

At the end of term, the recorder ensemble will be playing with 4 other schools at a concert in St Ives.  We will work with Alan Bullard and perform at the end of the day.

Bailey wrote:  "I have always wanted to learn an instrument and the recorder is on the top of my list.  I thank Mrs Drysdale for helping Year 4, 5 and 6."

Rosie and Grace wrote:  "We are from Year 5.  We would like to tell you about our recorder project.  The whole of Key Stage 2 is taking part in a big event called Fringe in the Fen, and some of us are going to perform a birdsong piece varying from Year 2's to Year 6's.  Key Stage 2 are all being taught the recorder and we know the notes ABCD and G, also, we have learnt the whole new language of music and can read it all.  Our Head teacher Mrs Drysdale teaches the Year 5/6 songs for the recorder.  Fringe in the Fen is an event being held to raise money for cancer."  To help us compose our recorder piece about Fen birdsong, we went on a walk down the Fen, as did others for artwork as we are building a gallery for Fringe in the Fen, all being arranged by our teacher Mrs Snooke."
